Who Chooses Medical Discipline in China?——An Empirical Study Based on National Student Survey Data

摘要 采用2014年北京大学组织实施的全国学生调查数据,本文对"什么样的学生选择医科"进行了实证分析。研究发现,医科学生在高考成绩上高于理科和工农学科,但低于人文和社会学科;医科学生入学以外在动机为主,内在动机明显不足;医科学生的家庭背景处于各学科中间层次;医科学生来自重点高中和第一志愿录取的比例相对较高,但"985工程"院校医科学生第一志愿录取比例较低。研究进一步分析发现,上述特征在不同层次院校间存在明显差异,整体上来说,院校层次越低,医科学生入学的生源质量、家庭背景相对其他学科更具有优势。 Based on the data from National Student Survey launched by Peking University in2014,this paper conducts an empirical study on"who chooses medical discipline in China"by using statistical analysis with ANOVA and multiple logistic regression analysis.Key findings are summarized as follows:the college entrance examination scores of medical students are relatively higher than their counterparts in disciplines of basic science and engineering,but lower than their counterparts in humanities and social sciences;students in medical discipline display the lowest level of intrinsic motivation;the family background of medical students ranks in the middle of all disciplines;the proportion of medical students who graduate from key middle school and who are admitted by first choice are both higher.Further analysis shows that there are significant differences among different levels of universities in terms of the above-mentioned characteristics.College entrance examination score,extrinsic motivation,admission by first choice or not and the level of universities have significant influence on students'major selection.
