Fatty liver disease caused by high alcohol-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae

With the support by the National Natural Science Foundation of China,the research team led by Prof.Yuan Jing(袁静) from the Capital Institute of Pediatrics,Liu Di(刘翟)from Wuhan Institute of Virology,Chinese Academy of Sciences,and Yang RuiFu(杨瑞馥)from the State Key Laboratory of Pathogen and Biosecurity,Beijing Institute of Microbiology and Epidemiology,uncovered that an intriguing kind of gut bacterium,Klebsiella pneumoniae,capable of producing a large amount of alcohol in the body,could lead to nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD),which was published in Cell Metabolism(2019,30(4):675—688).
