Literature and Liberty:One of the Functions of Literature

文学之用关乎人的精神自由而非肉体性生存。人类社会的发展必然伴随着整体性对个体性的压抑,文学就是站在个体的立场上,为那些自由受到限制的人发声,为个人意志正名。文学维护人的精神自由的功能,一方面体现为揭示群体规则对个体利益侵害的实质,一方面鼓励人的创造精神,激发人向远方发展的冲动,从而为自己创造最大限度的精神自由空间。

One of the functions of literature is related more to the human spiritual liberty than to the physical existence.The development of human society is inevitably followed by the collective suppression of the individual.Literature,imagining itself in the individual?s position,speaks for those whose liberty is restricted,and justifies the individual will.The function of literature for preserving human spiritual liberty can be reflected,on one hand,in revealing the essence of collective infringement on the individual,and on the other hand,in encouraging human?s creative spirit and stimulating the impulse to go far,then producing the maximal space of one?s spiritual liberty.
