Poetic History and Rational History:Two Orientations in Contemporary Theory of History

一般认为,分析哲学背景中的海登·怀特与大陆哲学背景中的约恩·吕森代表了当代西方史学理论发展的两条路径:诗性与理性。在当代史学理论研究范式中,他们在面对基本相同的思考对象和学科问题时,给出了各自明显不同的解释体系和理论立场。但同时,他们在面对历史构图的真实与虚构、历史伦理的自由与解放这些基础性问题时,抛开具体的理论解释的差别,在总体的观点导向上,论证却多有相似之处。以此为基础,带给我们的是对历史研究中的历史意义、历史理性、历史连续性、历史伦理这些基本概念的关联性与时代性思考。

It is generally believed that Joern Ruesen in the background of continental philosophy and Hayden White in the philosophical background of analytic philosophy of language represent two paths of contemporary western historical theory:rational and poetic.When White and Ruesen faced same disciplinary problem,they give us different theoretical analysis.But when they deal with some basic issues like truth and fiction in historical text and emancipation and liberation about historical ethics,their argument is more similarities.As a result,we should combine concepts like historical meaning,historical reason and historical continuity with the ethical dimension in historical thinking.
