Public primary and secondary education in China often falls into the strange circle of exam-oriented education. Some dissatisfied parents and teachers begin to seek alternative education models. Therefore, some private non-profit schools that advocate the practice and concept of holistic education came into being. The Waldorf education system introduced from Germany is one of the large-scale educational practices in contemporary China's private non-profit education.Since the first Waldorf school was founded in China in 2004,it has caused a“fever”of Waldorf education in China.Through ethnographic research, the author finds that Waldorf education in China is not only a response to the dissatisfaction of mainstream school education, but also involves a series of self practice and life arrangement dominated by the middle class. In a series of educational practices, such as school education, teacher education, family education and self-education,a subculture group with style significance is regenerated:“sub-culture circle of Waldorf”.
