摘要
《人性的枷锁》是英国小说家毛姆的一部自传体小说,小说展现了作者作为医生、旅行家、小说家的多重身份。作品中,毛姆用冷静、锐利的目光观察自己和身边的人,通过对现实世界中多种善与恶的叙述,剖析了各种与生俱来的人性枷锁。以生理枷锁、情爱枷锁、金钱枷锁和梦想枷锁为切入点,梳理了主人公菲利普的经历,发现毛姆不仅借用斯宾诺莎《伦理学》中的篇名,也把其中的哲学思想渗透到了小说创作之中。
Of Human Bondage is an autobiographical novel written by Somerset Maugham,which shows the author's multiple identities as a doctor,traveler and novelist.Maugham observes himself and the people around him with his calm and penetrating eyes.He looked into the good and evil side of human nature and analyzes various bondages in life.Through combing the physical bondage,erotic bondage,financial bondage and dream bondage experienced by the protagonist Philip in the novel,it is found that Maugham not only borrowed the title from Spinoza's Ethic,but also infiltrated the philosophical thoughts into the novel creation.
