基于图里翻译规范理论的《文赋》两英译本比较研究

A Comparative Study of Two English Translations of Wen Fu Based on Gideon Toury’s Theory of Translational Norms

本文借鉴图里的翻译规范理论,对方志彤和黄兆杰英译的《文赋》两个译本进行描写性、解释性比较研究。文章通过分析两位译者在预备规范影响下在文本选择方面的异同、在初始规范制约下所表现出来的不同翻译倾向以及在操作规范制约下所采取的不同翻译策略,阐明翻译规范影响了两位译者的翻译行为并制约他们采取不同的翻译策略,进而塑成了两种译本在词汇、句法、篇章等层面同中有异的文本特征。本研究揭示了《文赋》两种风格译本的形成原理,以期对中国文学外译的译本描写与批评研究有所启发。

Drawing on Gideon Toury’s theory of translational norms, this paper makes a descriptive-explanatory comparison of two English Translations of Wen Fu rendered respectively by Achilles Fang and Siu-kit Wong. It examines the influence of preliminary norms on the two translators’ selection of the source text, the orientation of the two translators constrained by their initial norms, and the translation strategies that the two translators adopt in compliance with both their initial norms and operational norms. It is found that translation norms have exerted significant influence on the two translators and their translation strategies adopted in particular, which give rise to the two translations with partially-shared yet primarily-diversified lexical, syntactic and textual features. The paper thus reveals the production mechanism of the two English translations of Wen Fu in a substantial manner and hopes to shed light on the future descriptive study and critical analysis of the actual translation of Chinese literature.
