Objective To develop a novel anti-caries dental bonding agent with calcium and phosphate ion release capability and anti-bacterial function. Methods Adhesive testing samples were developed.Dentin shear bond strength,Ca and P ion release, recharge and re-release,and protein adsorption were determined. An in vitro human saliva microcosm biofilm model was used to analyze live/dead assay and metabolic activity of biofilms. Results Dentin bond strengths were not compromised by DMADDM,MPC and NACP(P>0.1).The new adhesive caused 10-fold drop in protein adsorption and metabolic activity, compared to a commercial adhesive(P<0.05).Large amounts of Ca and P ions were released in the test period of 70 days. With each recharge, the samples again had large amounts of ion release in the 2 week test period. The repeated ion re-releases showed no drop, with great potential for long lasting remineralization. Conclusions A new dental bonding agent was developed using NACP,DMADDM and MPC.It achieved long lasting recharge of remineralizing ions, together with anti-biofilm and protein-repellent functions to greatly reduce dental caries and protect the teeth.
