Exhibition labels are important for a museum exhibition, but excessive explanatory text can lead to reading difficulties, weaken the overall structure of the exhibition, and squeeze the visitor’s time to watch the exhibits. Based on visitors’ concentration time and reading speed, combined with audience’s behavior mode, this paper argues that for different types of exhibitions, the upper limit of visitor’s reading volume is 5000 words or 7500 words. Since the audience wouldn’t read every word, the actual text volume of an exhibition can be slightly higher than the reading upper limit. At the same time, the reading time of a single exhibit label should be within half a minute, and the front part of an exhibition should avoid too much text.
