新世纪伴随经济的高速发展,众多跨界交叉型新颖艺术形式的出现,如何保护和传承皮影戏这种传统的非物质文化遗产,发挥皮影艺术在造型、动态、文本、光影等各方面独特的表现优势,使其成为各年龄阶段民众都能体验和接受的艺术形式,具有重要的历史意义和社会价值。尤其置身数字化时代,如何利用最新的科技手段改变原有传统皮影戏缺乏纵深表演空间、交互性不足的局限性和传播形式单一、受众面窄的传播方式,利用电脑数字化技术,提高皮影戏传播效率和生成的艺术效果,培养更多的皮影传承人和受众群体,提升传统文化的影响力和现代化发展方面具有极重要的意义和发展前景。

In the new era of rapid development of science, technology, and economy and emergence of new multimodal/intermodal art forms, it is of paramount importance to preserve and further develop shadow puppetry, a traditional art form and intangible cultural heritage that has a long and rich history in China and its unique form of artistic expression in various aspects such as shape, dynamics, text, light and shadow. The digital age we live in today presents both opportunities and challenges: how to use the latest scientific and technological means to reinvigorate the traditional shadow puppetry that lacks performance space, interactivity, dimensionality, and effective delivery platforms to reach broader audiences in China and internationally and to educate a new generation of shadow puppet artists so the millennium-old art form will acquire new vigor in enriching people’s sociocultural life.
