An Examination of the Origin and Meaning of the Term Ecological Restoration

生态修复是我国生态文明建设的重要内容,并成为近年来的关键词。然而,我国在生态修复概念的使用上的相关研究,还存在意义界定不明、语词混用等情况,需要予以重视和规范。通过考据、中英语境下相同词汇的比较分析,以及知识图谱分析等方法,结合近年开展的生态修复工作内容,对生态修复一词的来历及含义进行探讨,并尝试重新定义生态修复。

Ecological restoration is an important part of China's ecological civilization construction and has become a keyword in recent years.However,in the use of the concept of ecological restoration in China’s related research,there are still cases of ill-defined meaning and mixed use of terms,which need to be paid attention to and standardized.This paper explores the origin and meaning of the term ecological restoration and tries to redefine ecological restoration through the methods of textual criticism,comparative analysis of the same vocabulary in the Chinese and English contexts,and knowledge mapping analysis,and the ecological restoration work carried out in recent years has also been taken into account.The main conclusions are:1)the term“ecological restoration”is a new term based on the translation of the standard term“ecological rehabilitation”of the Inter‐national Society for Ecological Restoration(ISER);2)the corresponding English term“ecological restoration”is seldom used by scholars in English-speaking countries.But it is mainly used by Chinese scholars and some Russian and Ukrainian scholars to express various kinds of governance behaviors;3)ecological restoration has undergone a series of Chinese localization developments since its introduction from the Western ecological community;4)“ecosystem restoration”appeared in recent years and was first used by Ukrainian scholars.The term“ecological environment restoration”is mostly used in the field of environmental law.
