摘要
从文化角度研究科举学具有整体综合的优势,有助于加深对科举考试的本质、功能及其演变规律的认识,全面评价其历史意义与现实影响。科举制与民族传统文化构成双向关系,在长期考试实践中形成品类繁多的科举文化。作为民族传统文化的产物和重要表现,科举制既存在历史局限性,也具有一定的借鉴意义。科举考试创设的公平竞争机制及其所彰显的择优选才旨向,是科举文化的精华所在。
A cultural approach to studying imperial examination system (IES) has such advantages as being integrated and comprehensive, which can lead to a deeper understanding of the nature, function, and development of IES, and which can ensure a balanced evaluation of IES's historical significance and its impact on China today. IES and traditional Chinese culture were mutually related and a diversified culture of imperial exams had resulted from a long history of examination practice. As a product and an important expression of traditional Chinese culture, IES has its historical limitations and value for reference. It is argued that the essence of IES lies in its mechanism of fair competition and the principle of selecting talents from top scorers.
