马克·吐温的短篇小说《百万英镑》泼辣机智,极具风趣,在其诙谐幽默的喜剧外壳下却极具讽刺力。主人公凭借从天而降的百万支票跻身上层社会,深陷于纸醉金迷的幻象中;并在物欲横流的世界里渐渐迷失自我。马克·吐温通过对社会底层小人物的遭遇,在辛辣地讽刺堕落的资本主义社会的同时,无情地批判了腐朽的社会现状对人性的摧残,也流露出对社会中进步思潮的产生与发展举步维艰现状的深深无奈。该文通过分析作品,试图探究作品喜剧形式下的悲剧内涵。
