Comments on Roof Settlement Estimation and Measurement of Supporting Condition with Hydraulic Prop in Longwall Coalface

The technical and economic benefits of a longwall coalface mostly depend on surrounding rocks controlled by the hydraulic powered supports, except the other factors related. It is impossible to have a coalface with a high production, low cost and safety, if there was a serious roof settlement and broken or unstable and failure of hydraulic powered supports. Base on a combination of the theory and practice, this paper has a detailed discussion on the following issues: l. Estimation and control of roof settlement in longwall coalface; 2. Measurement on supporting condition with hydraulic prop in longwall coalface.
