is a part of a series of books entitled'Modern China.'It first studies the historical development of the economic structure in Sichuan Prov-ince and the reform of the managerial system in its'third line'construction.Then,it goes on to discuss in particular the reforms carried out in the province since the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Congress of the Chinese Communist Party inagriculture,industry and commerce,as well as in the planning,circulation andprice systems,and the importance of establishing economic zones and networks back-ed up by key cities.Finally,in the light of Sichuan’s experience,the article calls at-tention to some problems arising in the course of the reforms.
