The relative rate constants k_(rel)of the PTC reaction of β-arylstyrenes(1a-1f)with dibromocarbene were measured by radiocounting method and the k_(rel)values were analyzed by lineal correlation method according to Brown′s formula(lg K_(rel)=lg k_0+σ^+ρ^+).It was found that ρ^+ values of the reaction of dibromocarbene with α-arylstyrenes and p-substituted styrenes were-0.296 and -0.438 respectively,while in the case of β-arylstyrenes the ρ^+value(-0.391)laid between the two values.
