卷一直以来被研究者界定为《形而上学》中的词典卷、插入卷和早期文本,但《形而上学》Δ卷与《形而上学》导论卷之间存在着内在联系。导论卷对形而上学这门学科的界定为Δ卷的结构划分和现行位置的正当性提供了依据。据此,Δ卷的诸概念可以被分为形而上学的原因论概念和实体论概念,后者又进一步被分为存在的多种含义和存在的固有属性。Δ卷被插入现行文本位置是因为它在逻辑上应当位于ABΓ卷之后,但在文本上不能打破E卷和Z卷的过渡。
