编辑在报社工作中占有举足轻重的位置,尤如戏剧的导演、乐队的指挥、佳肴的烹制者,其能力的好坏直接影响到报纸的质量、报纸的生命力。编辑应是杂家。应是“万金油”。编辑既要有扎实的文学功底,又要有一定的美工版面设计能力,既要有慧眼识文的能力,又要有善于发现新闻亮点的能力,同时还要有深度挖掘有引导性新闻素材的指挥能力。

An editor has such an important position in the work of a newspaper office as the director of a play,the conductor of a band, the cook of good meal. His ability influences directly the quality of the newspaper and its life. An editor must be an eclectic and 'Jack of all trades and master of none'. An editor must not only have a solid literary foundation, but also have a certain ability in layout. He must not only have the insight at good articles, but also have the ability to find news bright point, at the same time he must also have the ability to command in the digging out of guiding news materials.
