Context is of great importance for the understanding of meaning.This paper attempts to explore the influence of the extra-linguistic context on the interpretation of meaning from the following respects:time,place,participants,topic and socio-cultural context.It aims to help English learners to understand the effect of the extra-inguistic context and accordingly help them improve their English communicative competence.
