Three Mechanisms of Chinese Noun Classifiers

本文结合名量词发展过程中的个案研究,具体分析了汉语量词虚化历程中虚化机制所起的作用,通过探讨隐喻、推理和泛化这三种机制在汉语名量词虚化中的不同地位和相互影响,得出量词虚化机制与认知规律有密切关联的结论.

Through a case study of the development of noun classifiers, this paper reveals the three mechanisms which contribute greatly to the grammaticalization of Chinese classifiers: the metaphorical mechanism, the inferential mechanism and the generalized mechanism, discusses the different features and the mutual relations of the three mechanisms, and analyses the relationship between the three mechanisms and the cognitive rules.
