＂An Encounter＂ is one of the outstanding stories in James Joyce＇ s Dubliners,in which Joyce depicted the gloomy life boys led in Dublin,their inescapable fate and predicament in spiritual paralysis. Starting from the discussion on main images, this essay explores the hidden religious metaphors and points out their significance to broaden and deepen the theme.
