The X-ray spectrofluorimetry (XRF) and metalloscopy were employed to analyze the joint between the handle and the main body of the bronze Ding that was unearthed at Chu tomb of Warring States period, located in Xiangfan city, Hubei province. Results show that the cleaning or finishing the surface of the handle cast separately is an important procedure in the separate casting technique. The bronze Ding was formed by connecting casting between the handle and the body of the bronze Ding, which was realized by teeming copper liquid for the body of the Ding into the moulding cavity with the handle cast separately that was embedded into it along with clay core beforehand, to make the handle and the body clung together by means of freezing shrinkage of copper liquid. A preliminary analysis on the technological process was given in this paper.
