摘要
乔伊斯的《偶遇》和鲁迅的《肥皂》都勾画了他们同胞"精神瘫痪"或"国民劣根性"的精神状况。从历史语境、人物刻画、作者经历和叙事技巧等方面看,这两篇作品中的爱尔兰变态老头与四铭、爱尔兰叙述者男孩与四铭儿子学程存在惊人的相似,他们都是令人窒息的社会中的悲剧人物和牺牲品。两篇小说都承载着文明与欲望、帝国和殖民地、现代和传统、新老一代之间的较量、冲撞。
Between the seemingly unsophisticated lines of James Joyce s Encounter and Lu Xun s Soap lie the two authors painful sarcasm at their respective countrymen s morbid mentality and moral paralysis.The two short stories are compared from four aspects—historical context,characterization,narrative skills and the two authors experiences in life.The study reveals that there is striking coincidence between the Irish josser and the Chinese one named Ssu-min,and between the Irish boy narrator and Ssu-min s son Hsueh -cheng. These are all tragic victims of a suffocating society. Both stories show their authors＇ polished art in de- picting the conflicts between morals and lusts, between the British Empire and its colonies, between what＇ s modern and what＇ s traditional, and between the old and young generations.
