摘要
本世纪初国内学界对奥尼尔进行女权主义的批评有两个原因,一是西方的女权主义思想登陆中国并产生影响;二是国外的同类研究传播使得国内学者进行同质的研究。但文章认为将奥尼尔视为男权主义的作家缺乏客观性和精准性。其一,剧作的男女人数比例不是判断剧作性质的依据;其二,应辩证看待女性人物隐身或在场问题,因为这与性别取向无直接关联;其三,以故事的结局判断男权主义是站不住脚的。文章通过深入奥尼尔的传记和他剧作中的地母原型证明奥尼尔是一位同情女性、跨越了性别差异的伟大作家。
The feminist criticism of Eugene O'Neill in the early 21st China is ascribable to the emergence of western feminism in China and homogeneous studies here upon O'Neill made possible by western feminist studies.The thesis argues that the labeling of O'Neill as a masculinist writer lacks objectivity and accuracy.Firstly,the male-female ratio in his plays cannot serve as criteria for judgment;secondly,the presence or absence of female protagonists should be viewed dialectically because it has no bearing on O'Neill's sexual orientation;and thirdly,the windup as judgment of masculinism does not hold water.Through an exploration into O'Neill's biography and the mother archetype in his plays,the thesis argues that O'Neill was a great writer who sympathized with women and transcended gender differences.
