Objective To study the fluctuating asymmetry (FA) of digit length of Hui and Han ethnic groups in Ningxia, compare the mean value distribution in them of different sexes and nationalities. Methods Anthropometry was used to study the FA(2FA,3FA,4FA,5FA)and CFA of digit length of 412 individuals (219 males, 193 females) of Hui and 439 individuals (241 males, 198 females) of Han nationalities, the mean value of them was compared. Results Our resuhs showed that the FA presented as 2FA 〉 4FA 〉 3FA 〉 5FA; Significant differences of each FA were found between males and females in the same nationality, males had higher mean value than females; For the same sex, there was no significant difference in the mean value of each FA between different nationalities ; As compared with females, males had a significant higher difference in I L-R 1≥ 0.04 on distribution of 2FA ( P 〈 0.05 ). Conclusion There is sexual difference in FA, especially in 2FA.
