The Mission of the Modern University:the Reform Facing the Rebels of the "Public"——Jose Ortega Y Gasset Idea of the Hhigher Education

在奥尔特加.加塞特看来,19世纪是个"大众人"的世纪,懒散草率的"大众人"充斥于社会的每个角落,就连作为培养人才的大学竟也沦落为"大众人"的附庸。为此,奥尔特加.加塞特提出,大学要面向"大众人"的反叛进行改革,必须彰显其独有的引领社会风范的作用。

According to Jose Ortega Y Gasset＇s thought,the 19th century is a century of ＂Masses＂.The so called Masses are lazy and sloppy.They are ubiquitous in every corner of the society.Once the university that only provided talent training also becomes to a living place of masses.Therefore,in face of the revolt of masses,Gasset calls for a reform to the university in order to recover its leading function in the society.
