A-Level考试是高级通用教育证书考试的简称。对英格兰、威尔士和北爱尔兰的绝大多数大学而言,A-Level是主要的入学考试之一。通用教育证书A-Level和O-Level考试于1951年首次举行,O-Level考试于1988年为通用中等教育证书考试所替代,而A-Level考试则得以保留。在英国,A-Level考试有中等学校教育学业水平"黄金标准"之誉。A-Level考试的改革涉及学科门类、模块化考试和A*级的引入以及考试级别分数线的确定等。文章论及英国中等教育历次变革在A-Level考试60年发展历史中的种种反映。
A - Level examinations are referred to the Advanced General Certificate of Education (GCE). In England, Wales and Northern Ireland, A - Levels are one of the principal entry examinations for most universities. GCE A - Level and O - Level examinations were first sat in 1951. 0 -Levels were replaced by the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) in 1988, but A - Levels were retained. A - Levels represent the "Gold Standard" for secondary school educational attainment in Britain. The range of subjects, the introduction of modular examination and A * grade, and the determinateness of grade bounda- ries and ere were involved in reforms in A - Level examinations. This is a paper about the reflections of the changes in British secondary education in A - Levels' 60 - year history.
