Since the internationally widespread application in the past 100 years, architecture has been forced to absorb these technologies into its very core. In the process, architecture became consumed by these technologies. The precepts of functionalism were widely adopted. Architecture has become remarkably rigid and unsustainable as a result. This lO0-year era of entanglement is being supplanted by a new era - an era of open architecture. This era is accompanied by the gradual emergence of a distinct infill industry. This paper sketches the outlines of this new industrial sector and discusses its potential impact.
