American studies succeeded in becoming a discipline only after 1920s after overcoming a series of barriers.Not until in the late 1960s did the so-called subcultures,the cultures of the formerly ignored groups or the culture of the minority get the chance to step on the stage of American studies.This article- Smuggling Sex Through the Gates:Race,Sexuality,and the Politics of Space in Second Wave Feminism is a good illustration,or a reflection of the transferring of the subjects for American studies from one-centered to many-faceted.
