摘要
翻译研究是一个古老而复杂的问题。就陶渊明《责子》诗的英译而言,英美译者韦利、亨顿的译文虽然存在误读,但在英语世界影响广泛;中国译者方重、杨宪益、汪榕培等的翻译在意义的传达上略胜一筹,可对英语世界影响甚小。可见,译文的评判,不仅要考虑语言、文化的因素,还要考虑译者所处的时代以及读者接受的影响。译者的自由极为有限,他们面对着更多无法回避的规约。
The study of translation is a ancient and controversial issue. The paper studies the eight English translations of Chinese poet, Tao Yuanming's poem "Blaming Sons". Although there are a lot of mistranslations in Arthur Waley and David Hindon's translations, they are loved by English-speaking readers. Chinese translators, such as Fang Chong, Yang Xianyi, and Wang Rongpei, have translated this poem into English, their translations are better than Waley or Hindon's, but their influences in English-speaking circle are far less. Based on the above discussion, it can be seen that translation is not only affected by the language and culture, but affected by the history and reader. Freedom for translators is so limited, and actually there are more restrictions on them while translating.
