The Style-esteeming Theory of Changzhou Poetic Genre of Ci

有清一代的词学家都力图改变词为“小道”、“末技”的局面，使之自觉地表现出重大的社会内容和独特的感情世界。常州词派进一步从词的起源、言情等角度来论证“诗词一理”的主张，从而达到推尊词体的目的。他们突出词的表意性，强调词人精神情操的培养，提倡雅正的词风，体现出鲜明的道德伦理性和政治责任感。

Poetic scholars of Ci in Qing Dynasty tried hard to change the situation of looking upon Ci as a humble poetic style so as to make it express significant social connotations and unique emotions. Changzhou poets of Ci justified the claim that Shi and Ci are of the same origin from such angles as Ci's origin and emotional expression, for the purpose of esteeming Ci' a style . They gave prominence to Ci' s expressive quality, with emphasis on the moral cultivation of poets in advocacy for elegant poetic style. All of these embody distinct morality and political responsibility.
