East Wind: West Wind is the first novel by Pearl S.Buck the laureate of the Nobel Prize in Literature of 1938. In the light of the historical reality based upon which East Wind :West Wind was written,this paper tends to interprete Pearl S. Buck's view on the confilcts between tradition and modernism--to discard the dross and select the essential so as to build up a new world where tradition and modernism coexist together.
