The purpose of this paper is to examine a possible link between financial aid and the academic development of RFGS(rural first generation student). This study could shed light on the effects that financial aid has on students, and help develop a clearer understanding of the role that finances play in student success.Based on Tinto's student integration model,as well as Bean's dual effects of financial aid theory and empirical data, this paper finds that financial aid is relevant to the academic performance of RFGS and it has special mechanisms that influencing their academic development. While financial aid improves the academic performance of RFGS directly,it also influences their academic performance indirectly via modifying financial pressure and strengthening academic integration, major interest and social integration.Meanwhile, different financial aid patterns have different influencing mechanisms and different effects.
