《后汉书·马融传》考辨

Research on Biography of Ma Rong in History of the Later Han Dynasty

范晔《后汉书·马融传》载,马融因献《广成颂》忤邓太后而长期滞于东观,后又因得罪梁冀而流放朔方。考证表明,马融长期滞于东观与邓氏无关。马融曲意迎合梁冀,不可能有意得罪梁冀。马融流放朔方,显然与梁冀无关。马融在郡贪浊,故其有意杜撰得罪梁冀一事为自己辩护。范晔《后汉书》所言可能出自马融《自序》,故不可信从。

As is contained in Biography of Ma Rong in History of the Later Han Dynasty by Fan Ye, Ma Rong offended Empress Dowager Deng by contributing Extolling Guangcheng to end up for a long time in Dongguan as a punishment, then was exiled in the north by offending Liang Ji. The research shows that the long-term imprisonment of Ma Rong has nothing to do with Empress Dowager Deng. Ma Rong tried to fawn over Liang Ji with no intention of offending him. Ma Rong was exiled in north, which apparently had nothing to do with Liang Ji. Ma Rong was greedy and corrupt during his term of office, so he made up the story of offending Liang Ji to defend for himself. What Fan Ye wrote in History of the Later Han Dynasty could come from Self-Prologue by Ma Rong, which was incredible.
