On Military Officials Depicted in the Novel Water Margin

《水浒传》虽所写及十几名太尉,但从写作内容所占的比重及安排上,作者重点还是刻画洪信、高俅、宿元景三人。不仅如此,由于中国古代小说的特殊构造,作者在总体构思及逻辑或抽象意义的表达上,也实倚重此三太尉。三太尉在《水浒传》所写太尉中明显是一个独特的存在,对于我们理解作者的创作思想、创作意图都有着重要的价值。三太尉形象塑造成功,视角新颖,丰富了《水浒传》的美学意义与文化价值。

Although more than a dozen Taiwei （title given to military officials） are depicted in the popular fiction Water Margin, the author focused on the characterization of Hong Xin, Gao Qiu and Su Yuan-jing in the content of writing and the proportion of the arrangement. Moreover, due to the special structure of Chinese ancient novels, the author also relied on the three images in the overall conception of the novel and the expression of logic or abstract meaning. It was obviously a unique existence for the three images in the novel. It is of important value for us to comprehend the author＇s creative thought and creation intention. The images of the three Taiwei were successful. They had new perspective and enriched the aesthetic meaning and cultural value of the Water Margin.
