With the weakening of bonds in village community, the importance of collective rituals in rural social integration has become even more prominent. As one of the important ceremonies during New Year's Eve in the rural areas of northern Henan, kowtowing is endowed with a specific cultural connotation and social function. Through the kowtowing ceremony, the "new" groups of village obtain access to qualification and achieve a reconstructed self-identity in New Year's Day. At the same time, the individuals acquire and internalize social norms and local knowledge to achieve the village community identity; the intimacy of the social relation network is transmitted in the inter-generations, highlighting the hierarchy within the village. The practice of collective rituals by kowtowing during the New Year establishes a relationship between the collective ritual and the daily life of the villagers and the social integration of the villages effectively.
