Tibetology Translators Kenneth K.S.Chen and Li Peizhu:A Short Biography and A Brief Review of Their Tibetology Translation Works

我国藏学和涉藏题材著作的外译工作,是向世界介绍藏区历史和现实以及我国治藏方略的一个重要阵地,肩负着传播藏族文化、促进藏区稳定和谐、确保领土完整、反对分裂、维护统一的重大使命。陈观胜、李培茱先生自上世纪80年代起长期奋战在藏学翻译的第一线,为我国的藏学研究、学术成果的对外传播做出了重大贡献。目前,他们二位在藏学翻译领域的突出贡献尚未引起学界足够的关注,但他们的藏学翻译作品,数量等身、质量上乘,在藏学相关学科领域、中印关系等历史和现实问题上都发挥着极其重要的作用。

With the responsibility for disseminating Tibetan culture and safeguarding the stability of the Tibetan area as well as the territorial integrity,the foreign translation of domestic Tibetology and Tibet-related works is one of the most important propaganda campaigns to make China＇s voice heard across the many platforms of the Western media. It is also an indispensable way for the Western public to have a quick look at Tibet＇s past and present and to understand China＇s Tibetan Policies. Kenneth K.S. Chen and Li Peizhu have devoted themselves full-time to Tibetology translation since the 1980s and have contributed greatly to domestic Tibetology products going global. However,their great achievement has not received its due attention. As a matter of fact,they have a large amount of important translation works to their credit. Additionally,their translation works has always been playing an important role in the global Tibetan studies circle and some other controversial issues in the past and present,such as the Sino-Indian relations and the bitter border dispute between the two countries.
