钱端升的政制选择及其变迁原因

Ch’ien Tuan-sheng’s Choice of Political System and the Reasons for Its Changes

钱端升获得博士学位回国后,政制选择经历几重转变。由民主政治转向独裁极权,再转回民主政治;由一党专政转向联合政府。他参与"民治与独裁"的论争,赞成极权国家,遭受自由主义者的反对。钱端升的政制选择,并非随意为之,而是深受政治发展形势特别是世界政治发展形势的影响,夹杂着对于中国尽快实现现代化的殷切期待,同时还是早年所受学术训练的内在结果。钱端升对于中国政治的思虑值得后人借鉴学习,但他对于极权国家的肯定也需要后人引以为戒。

After Ch’ien Tuan-sheng got his doctorate and returned to China,his choice of political system has undergone several changes,from democratic politics to dictatorship and then back to democratic politics;from one-party dictatorship to coalition government.He participated in the debate of"Democracy and Dictatorship",was in favor of totalitarian state and was opposed by liberals.Ch’ien Tuan-sheng’s choice was not arbitrarily,but was deeply influenced by the development of political situation,especially the development of world political situation,mixed with the ardent expectation for China to realize modernization as soon as possible.At the same time it was the internal result of his academic training.Ch’ien Tuan-sheng’s thinking about political system is worth learning,but his recognition of totalitarianism also requires caution.
