A Study on Translator's Habitus of Stephen Owen

文学经典外译在中国文化“走出去”的背景下愈加重要,译者惯习研究对于明确译者在文学经典外译中的动态角色而言不可或缺。宇文所安是唐诗译介的重要学者,《中国文学选集》和《杜甫诗》是宇文所安翻译生涯两个不同阶段的代表性译著。对比两本译著后发现,宇文所安翻译惯习的形成和强化受到教育经历、职业生涯、经济、政治、文化等多重因素的影响,这些因素进而影响了其对作品的选择、解读及翻译策略的考量。

On the one hand,the translation of literary classics is increasingly important under the guidance of Chinese culture to"go global".On the other hand,the study of translator's habitus is indispensable to clarify the dynamic role of translators in the translation of literary classics.Stephen Owen is an important scholar in the translation of Tang poetry.An Anthology of Chinese Literature:Beginnings to 1911 and The Poetry of Du Fu are two representative translated works at different stages of his translation career.After comparing the two translated works,it is found that the formation and changes of translator's habitus regarding Stephen Owen are affected by multiple factors such as educational experience,career,economy,politics and culture,which further influence his choice and interpretation of the original text as well as adoption of translation strategies in his translation practice.
