The Textual Research on Wu Dacheng’s Letters to Zhang Zhidong

近期现身的吴大澂致张之洞信札6通,未引起学界的足够重视。这些信札作于光绪十八年至二十年(1892—1894年)吴大澂担任湖南巡抚期间,收信人张之洞当时在湖广总督任上。信札内容涉及两湖地区的日常政务运作,如社会治安、经费筹措、与中央沟通等。这些信札,对研究甲午之前的两湖政情与社会形势、官员政务往来,对补充《吴愙斋年谱》等,都有一定的价值。

The recently discovered Six letters written by Wu Dacheng to Zhang Zhidong have not attracted enough attention from the academic circles. These letters were written during Wu Dacheng, governor of Hunan Province, from 1892 to 1894, and the Zhang Zhidong served as governor of Huguang. The content of the letter involves the daily government affairs operation in Hunan and Hubei, such as social security, fund-raising, communication with the central government, etc. These letters were the reference value to study the political and social situation of Hunan and Hubei around 1894, to study government affairs communication among officials, to supplement the related contents of Chronology of Wu Dacheng.
