On Wang Yi's Literary Research and His Contribution to Academic History

王易是民国时期的国学大家,他的文学研究成就斐然,结合其学术生涯可分为三个时期考察。早期他主张以“真实切用”作为文学衡量标准,调和新旧文学之争;吸纳西方文学理念与方法,重审文学的定义、分类等基本概念,同时以传统朴学修正新学偏失。在中期转向音乐文学研究,在乐府、词曲文体研究上颇多创见,构建以乐府为核心的韵文史,提出传统词曲的改良方法。后期的歌词研究注重实践,主张结合西乐的乐器乐谱,将词曲作法改造后移用到歌词创作中。王易的文学研究是传统诗词曲研究向现代转型进程中的重要节点,他的乐学视角、中西对比的方法、对文学实用功能及创作实践的重视都值得借鉴。

Wang Yi was a master of Chinese studies in the period of the Republic of China.His achievements in literature are remarkable.Combined with his academic career,his academic achievements can be divided into three periods.In his early days,he advocated taking"true and applicable"as a literary criterion to reconcile the conflict between old and new literature.He absorbed the ideas and methods of western literature,reviewed the definition,classification and other basic concepts of literature,and at the same time revised the errors of the new studies with the traditional simple studies.In the middle period,he turned to the study of music literature,and had many creative ideas in the study of yuefu(folk songs or ballads in the Han style),ci(genre of classical Chinese poetry)and qu(a type of verse for singing).He established yuefu as the core of the rhyme literary history,and advanced the improvement methods of traditional ci and qu.His later lyrics research focused on practice,advocating the combination of western musical instruments and scores so as to shift the reformed technique of ci and qu writing to the lyrics writing.Wang Yi's literary research is an important node in the process of the transition from traditional poetry to modern research.His perspective of music studies,methods of comparing Chinese and Western literature,and emphasis on the practical function of literature and creation practice are all worthy of reference.
