The 1∶50000 topographic map is the basic map for China's national economic construction,social development,national security and defence construction,with a wide range of geographical elements,fine cartographic requirements and a large editing workload.SmartMapping is a 1∶50000 topographic mapping production software that is functional,easy to use and semi-automated or highly automated.This paper focuses on the methods and techniques used by the software in 1∶50000 mapping,including mapping data derivation,mapping batch processing,and common manual editing methods to reduce mapping editing workload and improve production efficiency.
