应锦襄治学奉行"述而不作",视"为学与为人实出一辙",追求"以文养德"的理想境界。她的学术研究主要涉及两个领域,即"比较文学"和"中西小说"。作为20世纪80年代中国比较文学的弄潮人,她致力于倡导和推广比较文学,包括理论的传播和发展史的介绍;努力推进中西小说比较研究,打通东西方文化之界限,探究中外小说创作和批评同贯共规的艺术规律。她学识通透渊博,见解深湛独特,更大胆尝试以论带史,广拓深掘,探幽析微,发前人所未发,其学术贡献显著,其治学风范弥足珍贵。

Ying Jinxiang’s scholarship has always been based on the principle of"only nar rating and clarifying the theories of predecessors,but not creating his own works",maintaining that"one’s scholarship should be in consensus with one’s own character"and pursuing the ideal state of"nourishing morality with culture".Her academic research mainly involves two fields:"comparative literature"and"Chinese and western novels".As a leader of Chinese comparative literature in the 1980 s,she devotes herself to the advocacy and promotion of comparative litera ture,including the dissemination of theory and the introduction of the history of how comparative literature developed.She makes great efforts to promote the comparative study of Chinese and Western novels,to connect the cultural boundaries between East and West,to explore the common artistic law of creation and criticism of Chinese and foreign novels.Her knowledge is pro found,her insight is unique.She makes a bold attempt to explain history with theory,saying what no one had ever said before.She makes remarkable academic contributions.Her scholarly de meanor is invaluable.
