The internet can bring grey memory of place,or it can create cyberplace. In this study, the spatial practice of“Ripple Action”,a youth heritage volunteer action project, was studied, which was jointly initiated by the Centre for the Cultural Promotion of Beautiful Nostalgia(Yangpu District,Shanghai)and the UNESCO World Heritage Institute of Training and Research for the Asia and the Pacific Region(Shanghai).Starting from active restorative nostalgia practice of university students using their vacation to their hometowns,an analysis of cyberplace-making in online and offline practice is conducted, using the three elements of place as the analytical dimension. This practice during the COVID-19 pandemic, through the construction of virtual Spaces to form digital exhibitions, and in which to communicate and interact, attempts to shape the sense of digital place in the gamified scene. In the continuous struggle between place and placelessness, the sense of place and the meaning of place in the virtual space are not exactly the same in the initial design of static landscape, when virtual and real are mixed, and after virtual practice.Virtual spaces have the potential to become cyberplace, but may not always remain cyberplace. The concretization of virtual space is good for the visibility of the cyberplace, but it does not change the reality on which it depends.
