Women in Shanghai:Spatial Culture and Gender Construction

晚清时期知识分子对女性的关注,是基于民族国家建构的需求,女性由此被建构成为“国民之母”。而在海派文学中,对女性形象的建构从“国民之母”转向情欲符号,尤其突出其“荡女”形象。这种对女性形象的建构和都市上海所提供的空间文化环境有关,也展现了晚清至现代历史时期的文人对现代观念的选择和需求。

The intellectuals'attention to women in the late Qing Dynasty was based on the need for the construction of the national state,and women were thus constructed as the"mother of the nation".In the literature of the ShangHai School,the construction of women's image shifted from"mother of the nation"to erotic symbols,especially the image of"slutty girls".This construction of the image of women is related to the spatial and cultural environment provided by urban Shanghai,and it also shows the choice and demand of the literati for modern concepts from the late Qing Dynasty to the modern historical period.
