The Skin of a Lion is the first Canadian-based novel by Canadian writer Michael Ondaatje. The novel breaks through the traditional narrative method with time as the main line, and uses fragmented narrative strategies to construct a multidimensional and threedimensional urban space. With the construction of Toronto’s urban space, the boundaries of language, nation and culture have gradually blurred or even been broken. From wandering unrooted immigrants to the builders of the city of Toronto, marginalized immigrants have drawn a cultural map of their participation in Toronto, and have found their own"position"on the map. Therefore, based on Henri Lefebvre’s space criticism theory, this article analyzes the construction of Toronto’s urban material space, spiritual space, and social space in the novel, showing that marginal immigrants are trying to understand and accept their hybridity identities, and find a coexisting for multi-ethnic country, different classes, different nationalities, and different cultures in Canada.
