莎士比亚的浪漫传奇剧《暴风雨》从问世至今,历经四个多世纪。各时代的莎学家们凭其才学智慧,对该剧呈现出常有真知、却也不无异见的多元解读。通过莎剧批评史上几位著名莎学家的评论,对这部几乎没有情节的传奇剧,从象征意味、严酷现实性、诗意浪漫性和对未来“辉煌的新世界”的预言性四个维度,进行勾勒阐释。

Shakespeare’s romance,The Tempest,has gone through more than four centuries since it was first performed on the stage.Shakespearean scholars in different ages have since presented a variety of insightful interpretations of this Shakespearean play,but not without disagreement.The present paper attempts to give an overview as well as an interpretation of this nearly plotless play in terms of four aspects,namely symbolism,harsh reality,poetic romanticism,and prophecy of a future of the"brave new world"on the basis of the comments given by several prominent scholars in the history of Shakespearean drama criticism,before giving a conclusion of the present author.
