In her novel Mrs.Dalloway, the modernist pioneer Virginia Woolf constructs, with a unique and delicate touch,a commercial London where the symbolization of clothes, food, house, and transport as consumption objects is captured and the alienation crisis of people of different classes and genders as consumption subjects is exposed.Meanwhile, through the double depiction of macro-economic environment and micro-commercial phenomena,Woolf also criticizes the negative effects of mass production system and commercial marketing as two“pro-consumption”contributors to consumer culture, reflecting on the economic logic behind consumption alienation. The economic narrativein Mrs.Dalloway not only bears the consumer society but also breaks its alienation structure.
