《近代中国的乡土意识:清末民初江南的地方精英与地域社会》一书以江南为空间范畴,以清末民初为时间范畴,从地方的制度化、爱国主义、文明化、改良乡土的地方精英四个维度认识乡土,进而切入江南市镇社会的乡土意识。本书注重利用乡土史料,从微观层面贴近地域社会,把握清末新政后社会变动的地方性状态。同时,本书对地域社会研究范式亦有所继承与创新,兼顾实证与理论,对清末新政后的地方"不安定感"做了极其细致的考察。

The book Local Consciousness in Modern China Reflected in the Local Elite and Regional Society of Late Qing Dynasty and Early Republic of China sets its spacial position in Jiangnan and time-span from the end of Qing Dynasty to the beginning of the Republic of China.The local consciousness is understood from four dimensions of local institutionalization,patriotism,civilization,and local elites of local improvement in this book.Besides,it makes use of the local historical materials,trying to get close to the regional society on a micro level,so as to grasp the local state of social changes after the New Deal in the late Qing Dynasty.At the same time,the book also inherits and innovates the paradigm of regional society research,taking both empirical and theoretical aspects into account,and makes a meticulous investigation of the local"sense of instability"after the New Deal in the late Qing Dynasty.
