The Anatomy Lesson,as the third volume of Philip Roth’s tetralogy"Zuckerman Unbound",whose protagonist is still Nathan Zuckerman,depicts the process that the protagonist is trekking from one doctor to another for his mysterious and unbearable pain.Zuckerman,a writer,forty-year-old,hinges largely on writing for his life.However,a series of events resulting in his pain,beginning in his neck and shoulders,invading his torso encumber his writing career,which leads to his reflection.In the text,it illustrates how Zuckerman’s self develops with his ability to master language:from self-struggle in writer’s block to striking a balance between self and his career.During the process,it aims at analyzing and representing that self and the"other/Other"are unified,so it is necessary to keep connection with our family,community and society.
